OUR FOUNDER
Owner, Jessica Yurwitz, is an artist, teacher, wife and mother. She is an Essex, MA resident with over thirty years of teaching and school leadership experience.

Jess holds a Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Brown University and Principal Certification from Northeastern University. She began her career teaching middle school art, went on to teach high school English and eventually became a high school principal.

Jess opened Slow River Studio in 2018 to build a community where adults can develop creative curiosity and build connections. She believes everyone can develop artistic skill with expert instruction and patient coaching.
